Rome/Atlanta, GA Financial Advisor Collaborates with Guardian Life on National Brief Addressing the Financial Impact of Menopause

Rome-based financial advisor Ande Frazier, CFP®, has collaborated with The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) on a newly released thought-leadership brief examining an often overlooked issue: the financial impact of menopause on women in midlife.

Titled “Money, Midlife, and Menopause: Turning Transition into Opportunity,” the brief explores how menopause, commonly understood as a biological transition, can also carry significant economic consequences for women during what is often their peak earning years.

According to Guardian’s research, women in the United States collectively spend an estimated $13 billion annually managing menopause symptoms. Women who have been clinically diagnosed with menopause spend 45% more on healthcare each year than their peers. Additionally, women who seek care for menopause-related symptoms earn approximately 10% less four years later.

“Menopause doesn’t happen in isolation,” said Frazier. “It often lands at a time when women are juggling careers, caring for aging parents, supporting adult children, and trying to maximize retirement savings. The financial ripple effects can be significant, yet they’re rarely discussed.”

The brief draws on Guardian’s 14th Annual Workplace Benefits Study and combines proprietary research with Frazier’s professional insights as a financial advisor with more than 30 years of experience working with women and families. The collaboration aims to help women better understand how midlife transitions can impact financial health, and how proactive planning can strengthen long-term stability.

Midlife is frequently described as a woman’s peak season of earning power and leadership opportunity. However, menopause symptoms can contribute to increased absenteeism, reduced workloads, or delayed career advancement. The brief highlights that 25% of women have reconsidered leadership opportunities due to menopause symptoms, while 33% have considered reducing or reduced their workload.

“Financial clarity becomes even more important during seasons of transition,” Frazier said. “This is a checkpoint; a time to reassess retirement contributions, insurance coverage, investment strategy, and long-term plans. With thoughtful planning, women can turn what feels disruptive into an opportunity to strengthen their financial foundation.”

The brief also provides a decade-by-decade financial planning roadmap and outlines strategies including emergency fund planning, catch-up retirement contributions, insurance reviews, and legacy planning.

Frazier, who serves as Head of Advisor Development and Innovation at Peachtree Planning Corporation and maintains a private advisory practice in Rome, is nationally recognized for her work at the intersection of behavioral finance and women’s financial empowerment. She is the author of Fin(anci)ally Free! 11 Conversations to Have With Yourself About Life, Money & Your Worth and frequently appears in national media discussing women and money.
